Velocity Help

If you have NetBackup 7.7.3 or later with at least one master server and one media server, you can use NetBackup to ingest Oracle data into Velocity.

Before you can use NetBackup to ingest Oracle data into Velocity, ensure that you have installed and configured all of the following items in the order listed. You may need to work with your NetBackup administrator.

Table: How to set up NetBackup ingests into Velocity

Do this

Instructions

1. Install the NetBackup Client on both the production Oracle database server and the Velocity Storage Server.

The version of the NetBackup Client that you install on the Oracle database server must match the version that you install on the Velocity Storage Server.

The NetBackup Client executes NetBackup backups to Velocity.

See the following topic for instructions on how to install the NetBackup Client:

See Installing the NetBackup Client on the Velocity Storage Server

You must carefully follow all of the instructions for installing the NetBackup Client.

2. Configure the NetBackup Client on the production Oracle database server.

Log on as root on a command line on the Oracle database host server and type the following command:

$ echo "VELOCITY_SERVER = <Velocity Storage Server name>">> /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf

3. After you install the NetBackup Client on the Velocity Storage Server, the NetBackup master server is automatically added to the bp.conf file. However, you must add any additional NetBackup media Servers that are included in the backup to the file.

Log on as root on a command line on the Velocity Storage Server and type the following command for each NetBackup media server:

$ echo "SERVER = <media server name>" >> /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf

4. Install and register the Velocity Client on the production Oracle database server.

See the following topic for instructions on how to configure the Velocity Client.

See Configuring the Velocity Client for Linux

5. Install the appropriate NetBackup Emergency Engineering Binary (EEB).

Contact NetBackup technical support for information about how to obtain and install the following EEBs:

  • For NetBackup 7.7.3, EEB 3903951 Version 3 is required.

  • For NetBackup 8.0, EEB 3903952 Version 3 is required.

  • For NetBackup 8.1, an EEB is not required.
