Adding roles

Velocity Help

You use the default Velocity user types to create specific roles for your organization. When you create a role, you select one of the Velocity user types and then assign users to it. Then, you assign one or more database sources to it to create the role. The users inherit the privileges to work with the database sources that you selected. You can give the role a unique name so that it is easily recognizable to your users.

To add roles

  1. From the Velocity Console, in the left pane, click Roles.

  2. In the Summary view, click +.

  3. Select the type of user that you want to create, and then click Next.

  4. In the Available Users column, click + next to each user to which you want to assign the selected role, and then click Next.

When you add a user to the role, the user's name moves from the Available Users column to the Selected Users column. If you mistakenly add a user to the role, click the X next to the user's name in the Selected Users column to remove the user.

  5. If available, select either Oracle or SQL Server as the source, select each database source to which you want to give the role privileges, and then click Next.

If you create a Velocity administrator or database administrator role, you cannot select any sources on this dialog. The administrator roles are not intended to be restricted to specific database sources. Only sandbox user roles can have database sources assigned to them.

  6. In the Role Name field, enter a name for the role that you created.

The name that you create for this role appears in the Velocity Console on the Roles page. It should be a name that is easily recognizable to users.

  7. Review the options that you have selected, and then click Save.
