Velocity administrator's checklist for setting up Veritas Velocity

Velocity Help

The Velocity administrator must perform the following steps to configure Veritas Velocity.

Table: Velocity administrator's setup checklist

Step

Action

1.

Configure the management server, which is a component that resides on a virtual machine in your data center. In the on-premises option, both the Velocity management server and the Velocity Storage Server reside on premises. All Velocity operations are performed inside your data center, and all data and metadata also reside on premises.

See How to set up the Velocity on-premises management server

Configure the Velocity Storage Server, which is a component that resides in your data center and stores all user data in Velocity.

Two deployment methods are available for the Velocity Storage Server:

  • Virtual machine deployment - The Velocity Storage Server is installed and hosted as a virtual machine in your data center. It is deployed from an .OVA (Open Virtual Appliance) file.

The virtual machine deployment is the only method available for the on-premises option.

  • Physical appliance deployment - The Velocity Storage Server is deployed on the Veritas Technologies Corporation 7330 Appliance. The Velocity Appliance is pre-installed with the Veritas Optimized Operating System, the appliance software, and the Velocity application.

See How to set up the Velocity Storage Server

3.

Register the Velocity Storage Server.

Before you begin, make sure that you have the Velocity credentials that Veritas provided to you and the IP address of the Velocity Storage Server.

See Registering the Velocity Storage Server

4.

Install and register the Velocity Client on any host servers.

Before you begin, make sure that you have the password for the Velocity Storage Server.

The configuration process is specific to the operating system that runs on the host server.

See Configuring the Velocity Client for Linux

5.

Use the Veritas Application Portal to invite database administrators to Velocity. Then, in the Velocity Console, create a new role for the database administrators and assign database administrators to that role.

It might be helpful to have a list of the database administrators and their email address ready before you begin.

After users are added to the Veritas Application Portal, they do not appear on the Users dialog until after they sign in to Velocity.
